Let's talk about the importance of a village. No, not physical villages with structures, but our personal villages. We all have them, whether they are small or big. Some villages look different than others. But one thing that stands out, is that each village is unique to ourselves.
For years, I've preached the importance of a village. It certainly has made me into who I am today. It has given me everything that I have. My village has been there for me through the good times, and the rough times. Even the times where uncertainty kicks in. Or even when there is a lot of great things going on. No matter the situation, my village is there.
And that's the beautiful thing about life. It takes a village to make great things happen both personally and professionally. None of what I've accomplished would've happened without my family, many friends, peers, teachers, therapists, specialists, and mentors. Each played a role that was needed at the time, and in some cases, is still needed now. The role may be less visible than it used to be, but it is still an important role. It may be a simple as checking in early in the morning before you get going for the day, or just offering a helping hand during a rough stretch. But it can mean the world to someone, as it does for me. And I am always grateful for the things that my village does to support me when I need it most.
Keep your village close to you. Even in the toughest of times with uncertainty in mind, always connect with them. We all make mistakes, poor judgements and decisions. Some more profound than others. Some that have bigger impacts than others. I've had many. But with my village by my side, I've been able to learn through my mistakes and poor judgements, and I continue to do each and everyday.
