Empowering others empowers you.

It has been another busy start to the new year. Not surprising at all to those that know me. But in many ways, it is a different start. A start of new adventures with new challenges...and new opportunities. And a start with balance all in mind. Has it been easy? No. Nothing is easy when you are trying to change how you do things that impact your daily life.

I have had conversations with several youth and young adults around my circle. But recently, I spoke to a class of occupational therapy students at my former alma-matter who were helping out my non-profit's largest program. This conversation opened my eyes in so many ways. Hearing what our young students had to say about the work I am and have done empowered them to go out there and make a difference. And that alone empowered me. I left the class with a different mindset and one that reminded me of all the good that has been done. Not that I don't realize that on a daily basis, but when you are indulged in the work, it is challenging to step back and see all of your work come to fruition.

There are times that you don't see the progress moving as fast as you want it to. I've had to accept that and find time to live more in the moment. Understand that things won't necessarily happen perfectly the way you want them to. Understand that there will be unpredictable factors that are beyond your control. Understand that you cannot do things the same each and every time. The world we live in today is too unpredictable with ups and downs all along the way. Celebrate the small victories, grow from the failures and use those to strive for larger victories.

Know that you can empower others while also empowering yourself. It's amazing how that can simply remind us of all the great things we as individual people can bring to the world.
